McKensie River, OregonCongratulations to mokai for winning the August/September 2008 monthly challenge with his entry titled McKensie River.

The August/September monthly challenge with the theme "Wet" was dominated by a single photographer:  Mokai, a master of the long-exposure water shots, obliterated the competition and took the top three positions. His picture of the McKenzie river in Oregon won with a great rating of 8.57.  Keeping with our tradition mokai will get to select the theme for the next challenge for November/December 2008.  Look for the chosen theme to be posted in The Official October/December 2008 Monthly Challenge Thread.  Congratulations to all who entered and we look forward to more great entries in the next challenge.

EXIF Data:
Camera: Nikon D300
Exposure: 30 seconds at f/16
ISO Speed: 200
Focal Length: 12mm

A few words from the photographer:
Thanks for the votes all. It is an honor to win with all the great photos that were entered. This is a talented group of photographers we have here and it is great to be a part of this little community.

This shot was set up with my tripod low to the foreground. I used two GND filters stacked in my cokin filter holder to get the exposure right. there was a big difference in light from the bright setting sky to the dark foreground. I had tried several different exposures before I finally got it right . The Nikkor 12-24 lens was set in manual focus and I had turned the focus ring to infinity, and with the aperture set to f/16 was able to achieve good focus throughout the entire frame. With the light fading fast I set the shutter speed to 30 seconds and the resulting image was born.

Thanks again for the honor of the winning photo..
